Biography

A strong believer in versatility, discipline, continuous learning and enriching the young minds with dance, Lang Ley is a versatile dance teacher trained extensively in classical ballet, modern theatre, jazz, tap, street and contemporary. She has completed all Advanced levels in ballet, modern, jazz and tap with Distinction in all graded examination, whilst winning numerous scholarships: Royal Ballet School London and sponsorships: training and courses throughout her dance career.

Lang Ley has been teaching and choreographing for more than 25 years in numerous schools and companies. Before founding Elevate in 2017, she has worked as a software engineer, full time dancer and teacher; and later appointed the Dance Principal of Crestar School of Dance Singapore for a period of 10 years where she co-develop the dance curriculum, mentor teachers, direct events and productions such as concerts and competitions as well as assuring the quality and operational excellence.

She encourages participation in stage performance, excursion and immersion programmes to develop greater interest and artistic appreciation. Her students has participated in programmes locally as well as overseas: London, Vienna, Prague, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Sydney, Brisbane, Seoul, Hong Kong, Taipei, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. Her students also achieved numerous awards in international competitions: Vienna International Ballet and Contemporary Dance Competition, Hong Kong Challenge Cup, Get The Beat Dance Competition, Dance Prix Indonesia, World Championship of Performing Arts USA.

Some of her students furthered into professional dance studies locally and overseas: LaSalle College of the Arts Singapore, Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) Australia and London Contemporary Dance School. True to her teaching of being versatile, most of her students continue to pursue dance as their side interest while at the same time graduated from traditional academic university: National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University.

Lang Ley frequently creates fair and open opportunities for her students and all dancers in Singapore by co-organising international professional dance school’s auditions, summer intensives and international ballet competition. Some of her projects were: Elmhurst Ballet School United Kingdom (Singapore) Audition and Master Class, Canadian World Ballet Art Competition Grand Prix, Russian Ballet Association’s (Singapore) Vaganova Ballet Workshop. 

Lang Ley also constantly maintain her professional development with courses and coaching from overseas professionals. She aims to bring out the best in each and every of her students.


CHERYL TAN — Associate Teacher | Classical Ballet, Modern, Foundations

Biography

A relatively late starter compared to her peers, Cheryl started Ballet at the age of 9 and has been training under Ms Lang Ley. Cheryl sees versatility and confidence as essential traits in dance and has exposed herself to other dance related forms, including Modern Theatre, Latin and Pilates. She values dance in her life immensely not only as a form of expression, but also as a sport that trains discipline and tenacity, constantly pushing her beyond her boundaries. 

Cheryl graduated with a Pharmacy degree from the National University of Singapore and works full time as an Executive on weekdays; while continuing her training in RAD Ballet and ISTD Modern Theatre Advanced levels, as well as completing the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies. She has participated in numerous local and overseas competitions for Ballet, Latin and Modern and has experience in dance choreography. Some achievements include Gold Medalist HKCCDC 2017 (Modern), Bronze Medalist HKCCDC 2017 (Ballet), TDA Championships 2019 2nd runner up in Novice A (Chacha, Jive) and Novice B (Chacha, Rumba). 

Cheryl’s goals in teaching are to nurture hardworking and humble dancers who are not only equipped with proper technique in a safe and supportive environment, but also to ensure young dancers have the soft skills and traits that will benefit them in dance, work and other aspects of life in the future.


PHYLICIA OON — Associate Teacher | Classical Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, Foundations

Biography

Ballet has always been a part of Phylicia since the age of 3 and has been training under Ms Lang Ley. Aspiring to be more versatile, Phylicia exposed herself to various dances and platforms such as Contemporary and Modern Theatre. She enjoys the free range of creativity and passion that is able to flow through her movements to the audience. To her dance is not just an action, but help to realise dreams.

Phylicia, a graduate of University of Oxford’s BA (Hons) in Economics and Management, works full time as an Executive on weekdays, while continuing her RAD Ballet and ISTD Modern Theatre Advanced levels training, as well as the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies. Some of Phylicia’s achievement are TRDO Ambassador 2018, TRDO Apprentice 2019, 2nd runner up S24 Tertiary 2018,  3rd runner up S24 ASEAN Open Championship 2019 and Silver medalist Hong Kong Challenge Cup 2019.

Phylicia hopes to nurture and equip the younger generation of dancers with the right tools to explore and portray expressions with the mindset of expanding their inner talents and fulfilling dreams.


VICTORIA ANG — Apprentice Teacher | Classical Ballet, Foundations

Biography

Victoria began her journey in Classical Ballet at the age of 4 and has been training under Ms Lang Ley. Her lifelong and unwavering passion for dance led her to explore other dance genres such as Contemporary, Street Jazz and Latin. She believes in holistic learning and practises dance as a tool for self-exploration and expression. 

Victoria is currently pursuing her Bachelors of Social Sciences in Psychology while continuing her training in RAD Ballet Advanced levels. She has participated in concerts, exchanges, competitions both locally and internationally. Some of her achievements are 1st place in Singapore International Dance Competition, Silver medals in Hong Kong Challenge Cup and Get The Beat Singapore. Her foray of work has also led her to experiment on varying styles in choreography and design.

Armed with her knowledge and exposure to psychology, she is able to relate and understand children better. She enjoys teaching children to express themselves and hopes to instil better self esteem, confidence and strong work-ethic in them.
