Biography
A strong believer in versatility, discipline, continuous learning and enriching the young minds with dance, Lang Ley is a versatile dance teacher trained extensively in classical ballet, modern theatre, jazz, tap, street and contemporary. She has completed all Advanced levels in ballet, modern theatre, jazz and tap with Distinction in all graded examination, whilst winning numerous scholarships: Royal Ballet School London and sponsorships: training and courses throughout her dance career.
Lang Ley has been teaching and choreographing for more than 25 years in numerous schools and companies. Before founding Elevate in 2017, she has worked as a software engineer, full time dancer and teacher; and later appointed the Dance Principal of Crestar School of Dance Singapore for a period of 10 years where she co-develop the dance curriculum, mentor teachers, direct events and productions such as concerts and competitions as well as assuring the quality and operational excellence.
She encourages participation in stage performance, excursion and immersion programmes to develop greater interest and artistic appreciation. Her students has participated in programmes locally as well as overseas: London, Vienna, Prague, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Sydney, Brisbane, Seoul, Hong Kong, Taipei, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. Her students also achieved numerous awards in international competitions: Vienna International Ballet and Contemporary Dance Competition, Hong Kong Challenge Cup, Get The Beat Dance Competition, Dance Prix Indonesia, World Championship of Performing Arts USA, Canadian World Ballet Art Competition Grand Prix.
Some of Ms. Lang Ley’s students have gone on to pursue professional dance studies both locally and internationally, with placements at renowned institutions such as LaSalle College of the Arts (Singapore), the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), and the London Contemporary Dance School. True to her belief in the importance of versatility, many of her students continue to practice dance alongside their academic pursuits, graduating from prestigious universities such as the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and Singapore Management University. Additionally, Ms. Lang Ley has successfully guided several professional dancers who have joined prominent dance companies, commercial dance projects, and even ventured into the world of Contemporary, Hip Hop and K-pop, both locally and overseas. Some of her former students have also gone on to teach and perform in these dynamic dance genres, showcasing their versatility and skill.
Beyond nurturing young dancers, Ms. Lang Ley also trains aspiring dance teachers, helping them pursue teaching qualifications in Ballet, Modern Theatre, and Jazz. Her commitment to developing both dancers and educators ensures that her influence continues to resonate within the dance community, inspiring future generations of artists and teachers.
Lang Ley frequently creates fair and open opportunities for her students and all dancers in Singapore by co-organising international professional dance school’s auditions, summer intensives and international ballet competition. Some of her projects were: Singapore World Dance Festival, Elmhurst Ballet School United Kingdom (Singapore) Audition and Master Class, Canadian World Ballet Art Competition Grand Prix, Russian Ballet Association’s (Singapore) Vaganova Ballet Workshop.
Lang Ley also constantly maintain her professional development with courses and coaching from overseas professionals. She aims to bring out the best in each and every of her students.
